Baptism (also known as Christening) is the service at which people, most often babies, are welcomed into the Christian church. Baptisms usually take place in our Sunday service.
The symbols of baptism are:
- the sign of the cross – the candidate for baptism is signed on the forehead with the cross, the sign of Christ.
- the baptism with water in the name of the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
- the giving of the lighted candle. The baptismal candle is given to the newly-baptised who will reflect the light of Christ to the world.
