St Botolph without Aldgate
Lecturer
St Botolph’s is a vibrant, lively congregation in the City. An inclusive church which bridges London’s poorest borough and its world leading financial centre, we have a weekday mission and a weekend congregation which includes a thriving Sunday School.
We are seeking to appoint an SSM/retired priest as Lecturer, a historic and influential post, to engage theologically with our local community, both those who work in the city and those who live in its shadow. The principal focus of the Lecturer will be education and preaching, along with some Sunday duties. The post is locally based but influences a more global City. A small honorarium is payable. Enhanced CRB disclosure required.
For further information please contact the Rector, the Reverend Laura Burgess, St Botolph without Aldgate, Aldgate High Street, London EC3N 1AB, 0207 283 2154, rector@stbotolphs.org.uk www.stbotolphs.org.uk

Good News in the East

Street Procession

Noah's Ark
Working and worshipping together for the first time, three churches at the eastern edge of the City joined together for ‘Good News in the East’ on Monday 20 June beginning at St Botolph without Bishopsgate in the north, walking to St Botolph without Aldgate and then finishing in Trinity Square, next to All Hallows by the Tower. Combining the three stages of the Eucharist, repentance, the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Sacrament with a street procession and excerpts from the London Mystery Plays, we caught the eye of many commuters on their way home. Our next joint venture will be to celebrate Harvest in the Autumn.
Dedication of Stained Glass Windows

The Lord Mayor

Alderman the Lord Levene
Following a lively Beating of the Bounds with members of the local community and Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School, the Lord Mayor, Alderman Michael Bear and Alderman the Lord Levene of Portsoken were joined by members of the local community and honoured guests for the dedication of stained glass windows to celebrate their time as Aldermen of the Portsoken Ward who have gone on to be Lord Mayor.
The Lord Levene was Lord Mayor in 1998-1999 and Alderman Bear is the serving Lord Mayor. Both have given dedicated service to the Portsoken Ward and their windows now join those of the other 12 Aldermen from our ward who over the centuries have become Lord Mayor.
The Lord Levene presented his window, beginning by recalling that his great-great-grandfather was born in the ward some 200 years ago and went on to pay tribute to Portsoken Ward as a “remarkable place, a mixture of cultures, faiths and people.”
The Lord Mayor remarked that the windows mark the service of all those Aldermen of the Ward and “celebrate all that is positive and good in the City of London and the communities we serve.”
Organ Recitals
Our unique organ, believed to be the oldest in use in England, attracts many high profile Organists. Our recent recital by Robert Woolley, an expert in sixteenth to eighteenth century keyboard music reflected on Handel and his contemporaries, amongst them, Walond, Rosengrave, Nares. Previous recitalists have included Thomas Trotter, James O’Donnell and Margaret Phillips.
